What is Fasting?

Fasting is the act of voluntarily refraining from eating all foods including juices, tea and coffee. Fasting gives the whole digestive system a rest, allowing the body to cleanse itself thoroughly, often removing years of accumulated impurities and waste matter.

Fasting is one of Nature’s greatest healing agents as during a fast, energy that is usually directed towards digestion is focused on healing the body. It is safe to fast for 1-3 days without the guidance of an expert.

A total fast means only water is ingested for this period of time. Drinking plenty of water will help to flush toxins from your system and cleanse the body.Gentle exercise such as yoga or walking will also help to eliminate toxins. Choose a time to fast when you can rest and relax, spending time alone.

Sometimes side effects are experienced such as nausea or headaches – peppermint tea is great for this.

Breaking the fast correctly is very important. It is best to begin eating slowly. On the first day eat only raw fruits for easy digestion, the second day add some salad –this will help to get rid of toxins that have accumulated in the intestines. Day 3 you may add some lightly steamed vegetables, on day 4 grains can be added to the diet and by day 5 you may return to a fully-balanced diet.

This is a great blog. Thanks for sharing the information! As we deplete more and more of the soil where crops are grown we are going to have to turn to organic gardening and find ways to get the minerals our bodies are lacking.
That is why I take mineral supplements daily.
